This post marks my formal entry into the world of blogging. Oh sure, I have had online journals on other sites, particularly on my DeviantArt site, or on my website, but never on a formal "blogs only" site. I needed a place to store my random thoughts that wre not particuarly related to anything on either of those two sites. That said. . .
I was over ambitious the other day in overhauling my website and I accidentally deleted it from the server. I just spent all day trying to reinstate it. I suppose it was a blessing in disguise, because that site was old and there was so much information on the pages that it was difficult to edit. It was a fan site anyway, and I am not really into the Scooby-doo fandom anymore. I like the characters, but not the show itself. It also gave me a chance to revise my personal site and make it more professional looking, lest a future employer stumble onto it, as has happened in the past.

- I am a Ph.D. student in French at UC Davis. My area of research is 19th century French literature, with an emphasis on representations of the non-westerner. Dissertation focus is on representations of Japan and the Japanese in late 19th and early 20th century works. Additional interests include second language acquisition (SLA) and the history of Paris. When I'm not busy with research and writing, I enjoy watching Spongebob Squarepants.
